France Trip 2006

September 2-10, 2006

Later that day, we drove across the German border, but there wasn't much to photograph.

So more pictures of Colmar.

This is actually on a restaurant, Au Fer Rouge, where we ate.

But there was nothing Jewish about it at all. Strange.

Yana really liked the flowers.

Enough with the churches. This is the Colmar Synagogue.

It has a belfry.

According to a sign, "An original Jewish community was present in Colmar at the beginning of the 13th century, with its focus around what is now Rue Berthe Milly (formerly Judengasse). The community was persecuted and subsequently expelled during the 15th century, but was given the opportunity to re-establish itself in Colmar after the time of the French revolution. This synagogue which was built between 1839 and 1943 in the ancient style, is the seat of the Jewish Consistory and of the Chief Rabbinate of the Haute-Rhin.

This plaque says "The French Republic, in hommage to the victims of the racist and ant-Semetic persecutions and the crimes against humanity committed under the authority of the "Government of the French State" 1940-1944. Never Forget."

More Colmar.

Outside.

Dinner at the aforementioned Au Fer Rouge, which had one Michellin star.

That was a big cup of coffee.

Really good though.

At night.

Yana liked the lamps.
